Sreekrishnapuram has a rich historical and cultural heritage. The name Sreekrishnapuram is traditionally associated with the Sreekrishna temple in the region. The area forms part of the historic Valluvanad cultural region and has long been known for its traditional arts, literature, temples and community life. Sreekrishnapuram Grama Panchayat was established on 1 January 1962. Over the years, the region has developed while preserving its cultural traditions and rural character.

1962 ജനുവരി 1-ന് ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണപുരം ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്ത് രൂപീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. കാലക്രമേണ പ്രദേശം വികസിച്ചുവന്നെങ്കിലും, തനതായ സാംസ്കാരിക പാരമ്പര്യവും ഗ്രാമീണ സ്വഭാവവും ഇന്നും നിലനിർത്തിപ്പോരുന്നു.

Sreekrishnapuram has a scenic midland landscape with small hills, plains and gentle slopes. The Karimpuzha River forms part of the northern boundary of the region. The area has several natural water resources, ponds and traditional water bodies. Hills such as Marungodan Mala, Chathan Kunnu, Chinmaya Kunnu, Nilavilikkunnu and Parakkunnu add to the natural character of Sreekrishnapuram.
